E160 Contractors Your Meetings Are Costing Millions
E160 Contractors Your Meetings Are Costing Millions
California contractors need to stop bidding like it is 2019.
The numbers are ugly.
California’s construction cost index is up about 2.8% year over year.
Overall construction costs are still roughly 25-28% above pre-2020 levels.
Single-family starts were down 13.3% in a recent six-month California read.
Residential permits were running about 16% below historical averages.
And labor costs are up about 21% since 2019.
That is not a vibe.
That is a margin problem.
If your estimate uses stale labor burden rates, you are donating profit.
If your schedule assumes permits, utilities, and subs all move on time, your cash-flow forecast is fiction.
If your WIP report only gets reviewed after the job is already bleeding, you are too late.
California contractors do not need more revenue with weak controls.
They need disciplined numbers:
• Updated labor rates
• Escalation clauses
• Realistic delay assumptions
• Weekly job-cost reviews
• Change orders priced immediately
The market is not forgiving sloppy math.
Your numbers have to be tighter than the jobsite.
