If you’ve ever thought about installing EV chargers at your shop, yard, or office, the clock is officially ticking.

The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property (AFVRP) Credit is set to expire for equipment placed in service after June 30, 2026. That gives you seven months to act.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • What’s the credit worth?

For individuals:

30% of the cost

Up to $1,000

Home must be in an eligible census tract

For businesses:

Up to $100,000 per charger/port

Credit is 6%, OR 30% if wage + apprenticeship rules are met

Much bigger opportunity for shops with fleets or high-traffic yards

  • What counts as qualifying equipment?

EV chargers (Level 2 and DC fast chargers)

Associated installation costs

Pedestals, wiring, conduit, panels, and smart charging systems

Must be original-use and integral to the charging setup

This adds up—fast.

A business installing 40 charging ports could claim up to $208,500 in credits.
