Section 179 Just Got a Massive Upgrade for Contractors
Section 179 Just Got a Massive Upgrade for Contractors
If you buy equipment, pay attention.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act expanded Section 179 limits:
- Up to $2.5M in immediate expensing
- Phase-out starts at $4M
- Full expensing on qualified property
Translation?
That excavator. That truck. That trailer. You may be able to write off the full cost this year.
Not depreciated over 5 or 7 years. Not spread out. Now.
For contractors buying heavy equipment, this is massive.
But here is the catch:
You need taxable income to use it. You need to place it in service before year-end. And you need a strategy, not just a receipt.
Because writing off $500K in equipment sounds great. Until it creates a loss you cannot use.
The smart play:
- Buy with a plan
- Time the purchase
- Coordinate with your tax strategy
Do not just spend money to save on taxes. Spend money that makes money, and let the tax savings follow.
